But the Flyover is symbolic of a larger issue. For the past 30+ years, The financial power center of the country was Wall Street. The financial crisis has changed that. Now the financial center of power is located in Washington DC along with the political power. The potential for mismangement and corruption has been multiplied many times.
For years, the center of the country has been referred to as Flyover Country. Compared to the coastal regions it is of no importance except for election year pandering. Flyover Country has been expanded to include New York City. Welcome to the small world.
